The Jeffrey Hotel
Complete renovation and repositioning of the former Alpenrose Inn into The Jeffrey Hotel - a modern boutique hotel in South Lake Tahoe built for the post-COVID era with contactless entry, refreshed interiors, and a new brand identity.
From the Alpenrose Inn to The Jeffrey
The Alpenrose Inn was a dated South Lake Tahoe lodge that had seen better days. Classic mountain motel - green signage, weathered wood, the kind of place that relied on location more than experience. It needed more than a refresh. It needed a complete rethinking.
The renovation transformed the property into The Jeffrey Hotel - a modern boutique hotel built for a new generation of Tahoe visitors. The exterior got a full overhaul: new cedar and white board-and-batten siding, horizontal metal railings, a redesigned entry with wood slat fencing, and a custom illuminated sign that sets the tone from the parking lot.
Inside, the rooms were updated with modern finishes and - critically - a fully contactless guest experience. During COVID, the hotel industry scrambled to figure out no-touch operations. We built it into the bones of the renovation: keyless smart lock entry, digital check-in, and a guest flow designed to minimize unnecessary contact. Not as a temporary fix, but as the permanent operating model.
Built for Playpark Hospitality, the renovation proved that a tired motel property in a prime location can be repositioned into a boutique brand that competes with new construction - at a fraction of the cost.
